Marnie Price saw her first ballet when she was 3 years old and told her mom that is what
she wanted to do. At age 6, Marnie was enrolled at Portland School of Ballet in Maine.
She had additional training at Boston Ballet School, New Orleans Ballet and Central
Pennsylvania Youth Ballet before auditioning for The School of American Ballet, New
York City Ballet’s prestigious school. Marnie was accepted on scholarship and spent 4
consecutive summers at SAB studying with George Balanchine’s direct descendants.
Marnie’s family moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina, so she could further her
training and gain more performing experience, while mixing academics into her rigorous
schedule at University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She attended from grades 7-
12 being mentored by Melissa Hayden. After graduating, she went on to perform with the
Pennsylvania Ballet in such ballets as The Nutcracker, Concerto in Three Movements, A
Mid Summers Night Dream, Donizetti Variations, Swan Lake and Concerto Barocco.
This was where Marnie was first asked to teach a ballet class and quickly fell in love with
the notion of being able to bring joy into the ballet classroom and not boredom.
Marnie’s teaching led her back to North Carolina, where she has taught ballet for over 30
years at such schools and companies as: Wake Forest University, The Charlotte Ballet,
High Point Ballet, and Sandhills Dance and Performing Arts Academy in Pinehurst, to
name a few. She was a Principal dancer with the latter two companies for several years,
as well as co-producer for performances. Marnie has choreographed and produced many
mini ballets such as: The Nutcracker, Snow White, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Sleeping
Beauty, La Boutique Fantasque, Alice in Wonderland, The Western and Firebird.
Marnie’s students have gone on to be excepted into well-known dance programs at
Joffrey Ballet, Pace University, UNCSA, USC, and Governor’s School of NC. Numerous
students perform on University dance teams and go on to perform with professional
sports teams and cruise lines. Marnie has taught 4 of the current Carolina TopCats!
Marnie’s other accomplishments include a BA in Liberal Studies from UNC Greensboro,
being a certified Yoga instructor, judging for Applause dance competitions and
choreographing award-winning pieces for North Carolina pageants. She also won the
teacher division for a pointe solo during a Showstopper dance competition and was
recruited by owner, Debbie Roberts, to teach ballet at her then, Archdale, North Carolina,
studio. However, her greatest achievement is her family, daughter-Selena, son-Luca and
supportive husband, Kevin.
